Shawn is a familiar face as the host of "heart of the matter" tv show. He is the author of the book "i was a born-again mormon" and is a leader of calvary campuss.

Growing up in the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints (lds), Shawn served a mission in Harrisburg, pennsylvania. He married his wife, mary, in the los angeles temple. They are both graduates of brigham young university. While a member of the lds church, shawn served as a home teacher, elder's quorum president, seminary teacher and a member of a bishopric and stake high council. In 2001, shawn asked to be excommunicated from the lds church due to his personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

After a successful career as a securities broker, shawn spent 2 years in training for pastoral ministry at the calvary chapel school of ministry. Shawn and Mary are proud parents of 3 daughters.

I was born and raised in Ogden Utah. I was active in the LDS church in my early life but fell away to sow my wild oats early in life. I returned to the LDS church for a while and then fell away again not finding rest for my soul. I met my beautiful wife and have been married now for 6 years. God has greatly blessed us with our now 8 month old son Elias. Through my wife attending Shawn's bible study, I hesitantly contacted Shawn, automatically disliking him because I thought he was a Mormon basher. I also began searching the validity of the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I found enormous amounts of evidence pointing to the validity of the Bible and absolutely no evidence pointing to the validity of the Book of Mormon. Using common sense, not relying on my feelings, I discovered that Christ paid it all at the cross and that there was nothing I could do. I turned my life over to the Lord Jesus Christ with tears one night and then went to bed. When I woke up, I noticed something had been drastically changed, I was Born Again. The best way to describe being born again was that a thousand pound weight had been lifted off my chest. Jesus led me into His truth and His truth had set me free. I knew that His word (The Bible) was truth and that He was the only way to be saved. And I knew this not through an emotional response, but through common sense and head knowledge. The evidence pointed to the Bible and to Jesus Christ. The Bible was tangible truth that could be examined and could stand up to the tests that I had rigorously put it through. My heart and mind were changed and I had a new picture of life. The Lord took away my alcoholism, my emotional pain, and breathed life into me through His Holy Spirit. I have devoted my life to the Lord ever since and am currently attending Calvary Chapel Bible College. I was asked by Shawn McCraney to teach at Utah State University with Calvary Campus.

My hope and prayer for everyone is that they search out the evidence with an open mind. If you are not willing to see truth, then you will never see it. No matter how hard it is to find out the truth, follow the evidence and I guarantee it will point you to Jesus Christ and his infallible word which is the Bible. The Bible says that Jesus paid it all at the cross and there is nothing you can do to earn salvation. It is by Grace alone through Faith alone. Turn your life over to the Lord and trust in Him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
